What is flatbed recovery?
A flatbed (sometimes called a car ambulance) is a tow truck with a deck. The car is winched onto the deck and secured with all wheels off the ground. That way it can travel safely even if it cannot drive or steer.
When do you call a flatbed?
- After an accident, when the car is no longer safe to drive.
- Engine damage, clutch problems or a gearbox that has failed.
- When you need to move a car without MOT or insurance — it may not drive on the road.
- For an electric car that has stopped. It belongs on a flatbed.
- For a classic or sports car you do not want to tow on a cable.
Where to?
You choose the destination: your usual garage, your home, a dealer, a body shop or a scrapyard. If it is night and your garage is closed, we look together for the best option, such as a safe place until morning.
How it works
You call with the location, number plate and destination. You hear the price and roughly when we arrive. The driver loads your car, secures it and drives to the address you gave. If there is room in the cab, you can ride along — say how many people when you call.
If space is tight (car park or narrow street), say so up front. Then we check whether a flatbed can get in, or whether the car must be moved a short way first.
